My Top 5 of 2011

favourite 2
Debby, whose cards I’ve admired for a long while now, is doing a round up of 2011 and asking us to share our Top 5 Cards of 2011. Here are mine:

1. I love pink and butterflies, so this one had to make my top 5!

18012011656
2. This year I started joining in the LIM challenges and this is my favourite, both WoW and CAS!
IMG_4132

3. I loved making this card using all Digi Papers, image and sentiment from Pink Petticoat and it won their ‘Celebrate Spring Competition’

4. My Dad turned 70 this year and I had to make him a special card so used my favourite DP of this year and one of my favourite stamps too!
Lili of Valley Boys Card (3)

5. Finally this made my top 5 as it was one of the first cards of 2011 where I tried to embellish a bit more. I’m not good at adding things to my card, much like in real life as can’t accessorise an outfit!

All in all this has been a good year, I managed to win the Pink Petticoat Competition ‘Celebrate Spring’, be a runner up in Pink Petticoats ‘O Christmas Tree’ Competition, I got a third place in the Madeira category in Cardmaking and Papercrafts ‘Cardmaker of the Year’ and I was a runner up in Papercrafts Essentials ‘Papercrafter of the Year’ (getting my cards pictured in the current issue was the best Christmas pressie I could have wished for!). And with us looking for a new house at the moment and perhaps thinking about extending our family, 2012 promises to be a good year as well.
Thanks Debby for letting us share and Happy New Year to all.

…I’m in print!!

Anyone read Papercraft Essentials Magazine? If so have a look at Page 25….. my cards are there.

I’m a runner up in their Papercrafter of the Year competition but haven’t been allowed to tell anyone until now.

This was Christmas come early for me and I’m still grinning now.

I think I’ll offer a little candy in the New Year to celebrate, but for now…

Merry Christmas

Less is More – Music

It’s a lovely clear day here and to really get in the Christmas spirit I’ve been doing the housework with some very cheesy early 90’s Christmas movies on the TV (‘m a big kid at heart).

I’ve been trying to think of what do for this weeks LIM Challenge where Chrissie and Mandy want us to use the theme of music. I don’t have any music stamps at all so I have taken the other route and made a card for a song…’Love is in the Air’ from one of my favourite films ‘Strictly Ballroom’.

I had a little play with some new stamps last night and this is what I came up with‘

Thanks for stopping by and if I don’t blog again before Christmas I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Bye for now

Most wonderful time of the year…

…and I’ve had a lovely evening. Hubby went out for one of his Christmas Do’s (I say one because he has four in total and wives aren’t invited…hmph). So I’ve been sat here with some chocolate, a glass of fruit cider, watching Twilight Eclipse and wrapping presents.

I’ve been quite successful and wrapped everything I’ve bought..so far. I still have a few little bits to get but the main stuff is all done.

Anyhoo here is my next try at this weeks LIM where it’s one layer week with a theme of let it snow.

IMG_5398

This was the card I started making as A5 landscape and then trimmed it down to a square as I didn’t like it. Still not sure I like it but it may grow on me.

Sarah Hurley Challenge – #56

Cute Christmas Card (1)

Hello I’m here to share my card for the last challenge of 2011 over at Sarah Hurley Challenge Blog, where the theme this week is:

COLOURING

We have been sponsored this time by Limited Runs Digi and I’ve used an image of theirs called ‘Little Tree’ and teamed it with some gorgeous papers and embellishments from Sarah’s Tinseltown CD.

Please hop over to Sarah Hurley Challenge Blog and see what the rest of the DT have made.

Bye for now.

Lisa

Items: 6x6 white card blank, Tinseltown CD from Sarah Hurley, Glossy Accents, Ranger Stickles, Letraset ProMarkers and a white gel pen

A Quick Less is More Card…

….as I’m supposed to be looking at houses on the internet with hubby, which is actually quite exciting. I’m looking forward to getting back into a house of our own, especially as we are getting used to the area now.

I’ve made three cards for this weeks challenge but only this one is completely finished hopefully I get some time to post the others later when my little one is in bed. This is actually the second card I made and is the result of me chopping the end off the first one, the offcut looked small and sweet so I made this.

IMG_5389

This is one of my all time favourite stamps, the detail on it is gorgeous and it stamps beautifully. I’ve lightly dragged the colour from the image with a water brush to give it some subtle colour. The sentiment is stamped with the same ink and embossed with clear sparkle embossing powder. I rounded the corner on the right of the card and then the left hand side looked a little plain so I added a very fine ribbon (sssh don’t tell anyone but it’s the ribbon I cut from the inside of a new top…you can get some fab little pieces of ribbon doing that!) and a few clear gems.

I would also like to add this card to OLW, this week the theme is something that says peace, and to me the colour blue is very tranquil and peaceful.

Thanks for stopping by.

Critter Sketch Challenge – #94

Hope everyone is well this cold and wet Monday morning. I’m up early today as I’ve got a lot of things to do and hubby has the afternoon off for us to go shopping for his Christmas present.

Waffle over I’m here to share my creation for this weeks Critter Sketch Challenge where the theme this week is:

SKETCH

94

IMG_5341

I rotated the sketch 90 degrees anti-clockwise and used this gorgeous image from Stampfairy who we are lucky enough to be sponsored by this month. I was trying to practice my colouring/shading skills with my ProMarkers and was quite pleased with the results until hubby said Santa looked more like an Octopus…hmph. Anyway I still like it and I love the little lights and you can just about see in the picture that they have been covered in Glossy Accents.

Please hop over to Critter Sketch Challenge and see what the rest of the DT have made.

I would also like to enter this card into the following challenges:

Bye for now.

PCJ – Challenge 25

I have had one of those days…you know the sort where you wish you never got out of bed! Nothing bad has happened I just feel a bit off and restless.  It hasn’t been helped by the weather, it’s been awful today, I dread to think what it’s been like up in Scotland with all those gale force winds, a good excuse to stay in and make cards me thinks.

Enough waffle, I’m here to share my creation for the last challenge of 2011 over at Paper Crafting Journey where the theme this week is:

CHRISTMAS

IMG_5370IMG_5362

Such gorgeous images from Meljens (who are the sponsors of this challenge) I had to keep the rest cards simple.

Please hop over to PCJ and see what the rest of the DT have made.

I would like to enter the following challenges:

    Less is More - Green

Just a very quick post as it’s my my bedtime.  I’ve been trying to sort some things out and I would rather go to bed with them done so I can rest properly that go to bed knowing they have to be done tomorrow.

Anyhow I have made a card for this weeks LIM Challenge but I fear I’m going to be on the naughty step as my card has some red on it……ok hands up A LOT of red on it. It’s just that I wanted to try out a technique I read about on someone’s blog ages ago (sorry can’t remembers who’s blog) and also wanted to use a neglected Poinsettia stamp that’s been gathering dust in my stash and well they are red…lol.

    IMG_5351

The background script stamp was inked with various shades of waterbased green ink and then spritzed with a mix of Perfect Pearls and water before stamping onto smooth white card, this way you get a nice soft background. Next I stamped the Poinsettia stamp from top to bottom across one side of the card and coloured with ProMarkers. A little bit of yellow glitter for the centres, a matt of green card and sentiment and that’s another last minute Christmas card to cross off my list.

Thanks for another great challenge Chrissie and Mandy and I’m sorry in advance if my card has to much red.

    Lisa

Items: White A5 card blank, green card from stash, Ryman's Smooth White Card, Prima Marketing Script Stamp, Poinsettia Stamp from Little Claire, Various Green Inks, Letraset ProMarkers, Versafine Onyx Black, Pink Gem Sentiment, Ranger Stickles

Non Traditional Cute Christmas Card (19)

Non Traditional Cute Christmas Card (10)Non Traditional Cute Christmas Card (11)

I've gone digital! I wanted some easy to produce Christmas cards, so on the computer I've layered up some gorgeous backing papers and an embellishment (all from 'Tinseltown') and then printed onto smooth white card. To this I've added a 'Digi Stamp Boutique' image coloured with ProMarkers to match the background, a dab of Stickles and a drop of Glossy Accents. Very little cutting and sticking means quick cards!

Please hop over to Sarah Hurley Challenge Blog to see what the rest of the DT have created for your inspiration.

    Critter Sketch Challenge – #92

I’m here to share my card for this week’s Critter Sketch Challenge where the theme this week is:

    DIGITAL DELIGHT WEEK

Easy peasy just use one of the fab images available from Digital Delights by Looby Loo. I’ve gone for this adorable little snowman again.

Cute Snowman Christmas Card (10)Cute Snowman Christmas Card (8)Cute Snowman Christmas Card (9)

I’ve teamed the image with some gorgeous Forever Friends patterned papers and stuck to some very traditional Christmas Colours. I also tried a kick stand card and I really quite like it.

Please head over to Critter Sketch Challenge to see what the rest of the DT have made.

I’m off for a long soak in the bath now as I’m still suffering with a sinus infection and nasty headache. A soak in the bath in the middle of the afternoon I hear you shout but it’s a little perk of having a wee holiday at my parents while hubby is away on business.

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Less is More

Just a quick little post to share a card I’ve made for this weeks LIM challenge where Chrissie and Mandi what to see us use Silhouettes.

I really wanted to have a go at this as I wanted to try out making a snowy background using watercolour with salt salt dropped onto it but thought I was going to have to give it a miss when I couldn’t find a Silhouette stamp anywhere in my stash. Then I thought about one of my favourite Christmas stamps from Inkadinkado and wondered if I could cheat and colour it in so it looks like a Silhouette…..I think it works…do you?

    Silhouette Christmas Card (1)

I couldn’t get a decent photo of this card today ( this was the best of a bad bunch) so the background doesn’t really show, but IRL it looks very good, the salt soaks up some of the colour and when dry and brushed away it also leave a slight bumpy texture where the colour has pooled around it. I will definitely be using this again for more Christmas cards as it was quick and really easy to do.

I would also like to enter this card into the following challenges:

    Thanks for stopping by.

    PCJ – Challenge 24

    Cute Penguin Christmas Card (4)

I’m a little here to share my creation for this weeks Paper Crafting Journey challenge. I have had issues with my camera and not been able to upload my pictures. Well after uninstalling and reinstalling the camera software and also formatting the memory card it looks like the problem might be fixed. So back to the challenge and this week the theme is:

    ANYTHING GOES

    Cute Penguin Christmas Card (1)

Now if you’re cunning like me I used this an excuse to make another Christmas Card. I’ve used a super cute digi from Digital Delights by Looby Loo, coloured with ProMarkers. I’ve kept the rest of the card quite simple to showcase the super image, but I did drag out the gold mirror board which I haven't used in a long time….well since last Christmas at least!

Please hop over to Paper Crafting Journey and see what the rest of the DT have made.

    Critter Sketch Challenge – #90

OMG, what a week. The few who read my blog will know I moved house last weekend. It’s said to be one of the most stressful things someone can do in their lifetime and I’m certainly not going to disagree. And to top it all off my little boy has been quite poorly, but thankfully is now on the mend.

We finally got internet access at home today, so I’m here to share my card for this week’s Critter Sketch Challenge.

This week Melanie has given us a sketch to follow

    oct 31

My card this week uses all digital elements as everything else was packed in boxes. The image I’ve used is a fantastic new digi from this months sponsor Digital Delights and everything else is from Sarah Hurley’s fantastic new CD ‘Tinseltown’ which can be purchased here.

I’ll edit later with details and items.

    Enough is enough…

….I need a break from the packing so I made a quick card for this weeks Less is More challenge, which is to use ‘Polka Dots’

    IMG_5198

Not my best effort, but I’ve made it so I’ll share it. The square panels are quite pretty IRL. I inked the inside back of an embossing folder so that I ended up with pink debossed polka dots. I then ran a Starlight Black Brilliance Inkpad over the top and embossed.

Monday again and now the countdown until we move house is only two weeks…OMG! Today I’ve spent all day packing and so far about 90% of my craft room is packed, for now I’ve left some stuff out as there is no way I can miss crafting for too long.

Less is More – Week 37

Just catching back up with things this morning, I had another Migraine on Sunday and it’s left me a little drained. I’m quite calm about our house (and area) move but I think subconsciously it may be causing the Migraines as I have had more in the last few weeks than I’ve had for years. And on top of that LO was awake (and ready to play!!) at 4:45am. I feel rather Zombie like so thought I would have a quick cuppa and a sit down and post this LIM card I made last night.

Now Chrissie and Mandi have given me quite a challenge this week, their theme is cocktails and after a good rummage through my stamps the only stamp with a slight link to any kind of cocktail was a little cherry stamp from Hero Arts. So on went the thinking cap and this is what happened:

    Cherry Cocktail Card (2)

I a drew a cocktail glass on copy paper and cut it out to form a mask. I used the outer mask first and stamped the cherries and then used the inner part of the mask to cover the cherries and inked around the edges to add a little definition. I watercoloured the cherries just to give a hit of colour and finally added a glossy cherry to the top of my cocktail.

    Hope you like

Less is More – Week 36 Take Two

Doh, how silly do I feel? Well the answer is very. If you saw my earlier post I said I was off to the hairdressers. When I got there I found out my appointment is actually next week, turns out I had an old appointment card in my purse. I felt like such a numpty. So to cheer myself I’ve had a another go at this weeks LIM challenge and this time I’ve used my hearts to make butterflies…

    IMG_5120

Hmmm, I like the butterflies, but think I should have left off the trails.

    Bye for now.

    Lisa

Less is More – Week 36

Just a quick post from me as I’m off out to the hairdressers. I’m a bit sad as this will be my last visit to this hairdresser. At the moment I have the most fabulous hairdresser in the world and once we move I’m really going to miss having him do my hair. I don’t know about you but it takes me ages to find a hairdresser I like, we’ve lived in Swindon for 7 years now and it took me 5 to find my current one (can anyone from Romsey/Southampton area recommend a good one??).

Anyhoo, having said it will be a quick post I’m yet again waffling. This week LIM is all about the hearts.  Here’s my card.

    IMG_5107

I thought it needed a sentiment, how wrong was I and I ruined it…

    Pumpkin Bear Halloween Card (2)

It’s quite a nice day here today and when little one and me went to Tumble Tots this morning I didn’t even need a jumper.

Anyhoo I’m waffling (again) so I’ll get to the point, I’m here to share my creation for this weeks Paper Crafting Journey challenge where the theme this week is:

Less is More – Week 35

Woohoo, after my holiday and a few other bits and pieces going on I sort of lost my LIM Mojo for a while (well my crafting Mojo in general really) but I think it’s coming back…slowly.

This week Chrissie and Mandy have set us the challenge to use the colour of our eyes. Mine are green…ish, I say this because my left eye has a brown bit in it (a bit the shape of a wedge in the Trivial Pursuit game). So for my card I have almost managed to use both:

    Green Girl Card (1)

If you look close enough the plaits on the little girl are brown…lol.

The stamp is from Little Claire and has been coloured with ProMarkers. The sentiment is from Kaisercraft. I think they make a good combination and this card could be used for Get Well or Sympathy.

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Vintage Haloween Card (3)

No rain here but there is quite a chill to the air here today, I think winter is really on the way.

Anyhoo, I’m here to share my creation for this weeks Sarah Hurley Challenge Blog where the theme this week is:

    HALLOWEEN HORRORS

    Vintage Haloween Card (3)

I’m not really a Halloween person , so this card was a little tricky for me, but once I started playing with Sarah’s fantastic Halloween kits it got a lot easier.  I began by printing the Vampire Digi onto Kraft card and colouring in with Derwent colouring pencils, I layered this onto some of the backing papers from the kit (one of which I embossed with clear sparkle embossing powder) and finally added some embellishments from the kit.

Please hop over to Sarah Hurley Challenge Blog for details of our sponsor and to see what the rest of the DT have made.

World Card Making Day Blog Hop – Day Three

Welcome to the World Card Making Day blog hop, the hop runs from 2nd to 6th October and today is day three.

There are10 different participants each day and each day is started by the host of the hop…Gill McCall.  If that’s where you started out and you’ve just arrived here from Liz's Blog then you are on the right track. However, if you have arrived here by chance and would like to join in then you need to start back at the beginning…Gill’s Blog.

    Here’s my card:

Lili of the Valley Christmas Card (5)

I bought some lovely new dies at the weekend and I’ve been dying to have a play with them. It’s a set of Marianne Dies (a bauble and a star). I bought them in Hobbycraft and surprisingly they were as cheap as anywhere I had seen them on the internet! Now for anyone who has read my blog before you will know I like to get that extra mile out of my stash and not just use things the way they were intended, so here I have die cut four of the baubles, embossed each with gold EP and then cut them in half and used them to create this really rather fancy frame….and I’m quite pleased with the result…even if I do say so myself!

To this I’ve added a Lili of the Valley stamped image (coloured with ProMarkers), a Pink Gem sentiment, a square of red card and some Docrafts Daisy and Dandelion patterned paper, oh and a few pearls too, which I coloured with a ProMarker so they would match the colour of the coat. I also had a few scraps left over so I’ve decorated the inside of the card as well.

Lili of the Valley Christmas Card (2)

I hope you like what I made and it would be lovely if you left me a comment so I know you stopped by (not just because of the fab prizes on offer…lol).

Now your next hop stop is Anita where you will find another fabulous creation.

I would also like to enter this card into Lili of the Valleys Ideas to Inspire World Card Making Day giveaway competition.

    Thanks for hopping.

    PCJ – Challenge 20

I’m a little late with this post as I’m just getting over a  really bad migraine. My vision is still a little fuzzy and the laptop makes my eyes sore so it’s taking me a while to catch up with a few blog posts, I’ll be back in a while with my post for this weeks Critter Sketch Challenge.

Anyhoo, I’m sharing my creation for this weeks Paper Crafting Journey challenge where the theme this week is:

    PUNCHES OR DIES

Clean and Simple Christmas Card (1)_thumb[2]

I have kept my card quite simple and have used a die to cut an aperture to let the backing paper show through. I was inspired by this weeks sketch challenge at Less is More and actually made my card on Saturday but due to the migraine I’m only going to make the challenge by the skin of my teeth.

Please hop over to Paper Crafting Journey and see what the rest of the DT have made.

Sarah Hurley Challenge – #50 Vintage

We are starting to plan a house move so things are starting to get a little hectic round here...thank goodness for crafting to relax me.

This is my first challenge as part of Sarah Hurley’s DT and the theme for our challenge is:

    VINTAGE

We have a sponsor for this challenge, Altered Expressions and they have donated three fabulous prizes.  I used one of Altered Expressions wonderful Hummingbird collage sheets and made this little boxed notelet set:

I made a simple square box from plain white card and covered the edge of the lid with some cream lace. I then took one of the larger Hummingbird images from the collage sheet and triple embossed it also adding a line of gold and then white embossing around the edge, because the image was already embossed the gold and white seeps in and gives a lovely soft edge.

This image was mat and layered on some pink Core’dinations, white punched border and some pearl pink card (which had been embossed in my Cuttlebug).  For the notelets I started by making four 4 inch square cards and punching the edge of each with a border punch., also adding pale pink glitter paper, patterned paper, lace and pearls. Next I’ve taken four more of the Hummingbird images and distressed the edges with some Spun Sugar Distress Ink and then stamped the edges with flourishes (using a butterfly stamp) and embossed with white EP. I then edged the images with a brown Whispers brush marker before layering on the card bases.

I hope you like. It’s a little different for me but I’m really pleased with how it turned out.
